Desk Ornament

Spending my office hours rearranging the new furniture with Seth felt much more productive than just sitting there reading manga scanlations for 2.5 hours.  (The Cate office got some nice hand-me-down furniture discarded by a wealthier department that is getting new shiny furniture. It’s better quality than the old desk we had, but our office is small and the new desk is HUGE, so fitting everything took some ingenuity on our part.  And muscles.  Did I mention that the new desk is HUGE?)  I wouldn’t call moving heavy objects fun exactly, but there’s a sense of accomplishment for a job well done.  Local readers should come by and investigate sometime.  :)

My time in the Cate Main Office is usually eventful enough during the school year, but this summer it’s been understandably slow and boring.  When you have about 1/15th the number of residents, you’re not needed nearly as often… Buuuut you still have to sit there for hours so that when someone does need an RA someone’s available. Thus the reading of much manga and staring off into space.  At least office time will be more comfortable now with the new setup.

In other news, I think I’m getting a little bit homesick or something.  I’m not sad by any means, but I am somewhat twitchy and restless.  Perhaps I’ll pop back home next weekend after everyone’s back from 4th of July celebrations…?  I honestly don’t remember the last time I was home long enough to actually sleep in my old bed.  The last few times I’ve just driven there in the morning, stayed a few hours, and come back to Norman that night.  We’ll see what happens.

Yum

Garlicy

I think I added a little bit too much water for these potatoes to be “steamed”, but the end result will be the same once I drain out some excess.

A round glass casserole dish with lid (microwave safe!) opens up a whole world of culinary possibilities when one lacks a proper kitchen.

EDIT:  They were good  ^_^

SodiYum

Ramen

Tasty tasty $0.28 meal.
Though I do not approve of peas…

Roast chicken flavor is good as well.

EDIT:  Hmm… I’ve noticed that as summer progresses and food becomes harder to locate my blog has become centered around food recommendations.

Abbreviated

Here’s an abbreviated Myers-Briggs personality test that was surprisingly accurate for me (as accurate as a test of something as subjective as a person’s perception of his / her personality type can be…).  If you enjoy silly internet quizzes this one should amuse you.

Test Here

My Type
“[Her] greatest pleasure is making [her]self useful and taking care of other people.”  Heh.  Yup.  The subjects of interest are also spot on, except for that astrology business.
Overall a very good personality analysis, including the weaknesses / things that get me into trouble.
The Wikipedia Explanation

Post your results for kicks and giggles :)

Warm summer outside.
Freezing cold inside my room.
I wear a hoodie.

Go Read This

This

Lackadaisy is a historical fiction set in St. Louis during the Prohibition era.  The artist uses a mix of black humor, physical comedy and lovely art to tell an engrossing story that’s had me following her comic since 2006.

…Why are you still reading this and not the comic?!

Seriously, at least go look at some of the paintings in the gallery to humor me.  Or buy me the book when it comes out.  :)

Felis domesticus

Sometimes I forget that, in spite of thousands of years of domestication, housecats are perfectly capable predators when given the chance.  I was rather impressed that the feral cat had managed to catch a squirrel (they’re fast little buggers).  The group of girls sitting on the lawn was apparently not impressed, judging by their screams of terror.

Good grief, people.  It’s just a cat with his dinner…

Cobwebs

How much do you think Spiderman could charge OU to remove the unreachable-by-normal-humans-cobwebs in the Physical Science building stairwell? They’re in the very top corner of a 4 story open area that surrounds some stairs and I don’t think you could reach them with a normal ladder.

Perhaps a very long stick.

Or a mutant superhero that clings to walls.

Either one would work.

Good to be back

I am very happy to be back in Honors, as evidenced by this morning’s church doodles (doodles = I’m paying attention. no doodles = I’m asleep). That is StickSam, hugging my bed and emitting hearts. StickSam is my favored drawn representation of myself, so she pops up in quite a few of my scribbles.

Time to welcome the new RAs. :)

Rambles

I always seem to find what I’ve lost right after I’ve given up hope on finding it and have purchased a replacement. This is how I’ve ended up with 2 drivers licenses and several rulers.

Fish lab is going well. I tracked a 27mm fish today. I can also estimate the size of a cave molly to within 3 millimeters. Quite frankly, I’m both a little proud and a little weirded out by this ability.

I managed to get algae on and off of my pants today.

I still love research and still do not want to get medical experience. I have, however, finally started studying for the MCAT. I suppose I can quit my medical experience volunteering in disgrace if I hate it that much. I do not need their recommendation letter if I hate it. (Norman Regional requires a 2 semester commitment) I will start volunteering at the Norman hospital this spring, and will continue there this fall if I can stand it.

I’ll move back to Honors tomorrow and Saturday, and this pleases me. The next occupant of my temp Couch room arrives Sunday, so I want to have the room completely empty and clean by Saturday night. Tomorrow will also involve 3 weeks worth of laundry.

This business of having neither a meal plan nor a kitchen is annoying. I do not like eating out this often, but a girl gets really tired of ramen and cereal.

Preliminary schedule:  Click Here
This schedule only shows classes and does not include RA duties (10 scheduled hours per week), ZAP tutoring (4 hours per week), or lab time (whenever and however long I can squeeze in). Perhaps I can do my medical stuff on Saturdays…
Yes, I am really taking yoga. Why not? I don’t pay tuition, so I might as well take a free yoga class. Having it on my schedule as a class is the only way I’ll get to the gym regularly.

Goals for this spring semester:

  1. All A’s again
  2. Finish honors project
  3. Mop the floor with the MCAT and the GRE
  4. Don’t do anything too stupid, especially while getting medical experience
  5. Make at least one friend in each class. Class-only friends are acceptable, but eat-lunch-with-’em friends would be preferable.
  6. Try not to have more than a couple 6 hours of sleep or less nights in a row. Immune system does not appreciate many low-sleep nights.
  7. Yoga-specific goal: Stick feet behind head. Perhaps lose weight

I don’t really do New Year’s Resolutions, so a list of goals for the semester is all you’re getting. (The listing of Sam’s Goals is not bound to the time of year)
