Where art and science collide

So I like fish. Most of you have figured this out by now. They make good pets, have interesting behavior patterns, and they just look cool. I’ve been looking a little longingly at the fish posters around the Zoo department for a while and have actually gone so far as to look for posters on the internet for possible purchase. I discarded that idea pretty quickly though since poster + shipping = expensive.

But here’s where the art comes in. A few moments ago I was watching Pez motoring around his tank and thought “You know, if you want a fish poster you could just make one yourself…”
“…”
“Ohmygosh I could!” *glee*

I have no idea if I will actually design, draw and print out a poster of cool fish species but the very fact that I had the idea and was so thrilled has to mean something.

Perhaps I have finally gone insane. We shall see. I need to find other science/art people to see if this sort of thing is common or if it’s just me.
Combining your passions, I suppose?

Oh Look It’s 2009

Preliminary spring 09 schedule: Here
I haven’t added in Cate Main Office hours, other RA commitments or ZAP yet, but even with those things the semester’s looking much calmer than this fall.  Should be a nice break before flinging myself into grad school in the fall.  :) I’ll graduate with my Bachelors in May and only need 2 more classes to complete my degree (Ecology and Spanish), so a little over half of my classes are just padding to keep me at full-time status.

As soon as I hear back for sure from OU about grad school I’ll probably start apartment hunting with Caitlin.  She’s taking classes this summer and I would like to work to amass some spending money, or at least cover my half of the rent.  Oh kitchen how I long for you… I am looking forward to apartment life.  It’s been very nice to not have to pay rent for this room but it is time to move on from the RA job.  It is a very good job, but not one to be held indefinitely.  Living where you work wears on you, since you’re never truly off duty when your residents know where you live and can beat on your door for assistance 24/7.  This is great for them but not so good for your sleep schedule, you know? I love my crazy Honors children but I am a cranky old lady and do not like being woken up by a ruckus in the lounge.

Anyway, I’ll be looking for a couple of part time jobs to keep me busy over the summer.  Going home to the forest for 3 months straight isn’t really the most desirable option.  There just aren’t many jobs there… I’d probably have to drive to Ft. Smith and by the time you factor in gas from a daily 40 mile commute… Well.  It’s just not worth it.  There’s a small zoo just south of Norman that I plan to look into, plus a desk assistant position at the apartment complex south of campus, plus a tutoring job… And Norman has lots of bookstores; I’d love working at one of them.  Endless shelving of books?  Sweet!  We’ll see what sort of employment I actually get.

Happy New Year!
